The winter golf league, explained

The Winter 8 is a global amateur winter Stableford league. You play your normal winter golf, submit your rounds, and your best eight count towards a live worldwide leaderboard. This guide covers how it works, the rules that keep it fair, and how to enter.

What is a winter golf league?

Most club competitions stop when the clocks change. A winter golf league keeps the season alive: instead of one-off medals, every round you play between October and March can count towards a season-long total. The Winter 8 takes that idea global — amateurs anywhere in the world play at their own course, in their own conditions, and compete on the same leaderboard.

How the Stableford format works

Every round is scored in Stableford points: you earn points on each hole based on your net score, so one bad hole never ruins a round. You can submit unlimited 18-hole rounds all winter, and only your best 8 approved rounds count towards your season total. That means you're always chasing a better score, never protecting one.

Follow the standings as they change on the live leaderboard, with global, country and club views.

League Handicaps and integrity

When you enter, you upload your official handicap certificate and your League Handicap starts at the same figure. Score 40 Stableford points or more in an approved round and your League Handicap is cut by 5% — a hot streak has real consequences. The League Handicap exists only inside The Winter 8; your official WHS handicap is never touched.

Golf runs on trust, and so does this league. Every round must include a photo of your signed scorecard, submitted within 48 hours, and every card is checked before it counts. The full detail is on the rules and FAQ page.

Prizes

Entry is £20 and half of every entry goes straight into the prize pot — so the more players who join, the bigger the pot. At the end of the season the leaderboard locks and the top five split the pot 50/25/12.5/7.5/5%. See the current pot and the split on the prizes page.

How to enter

1. Enter for £20. Create your account and pay the season entry. It covers the whole winter, unlimited rounds.

2. Upload your handicap certificate. A photo of your official certificate sets your starting League Handicap.

3. Play and submit rounds. Play your normal winter golf, snap your signed scorecard, submit within 48 hours. Your best 8 approved rounds count.
